⚡ EXTREMELY COOL FACT

This bird's love song is a full-volume scream.

When a female was nearby, male White Bellbirds in a field study used their louder song type and turned to face her during the performance. Calibrated recordings showed extraordinary sound pressure—even greater than the famously loud Screaming Piha. Subtle courtship was apparently not on the menu.

What's real?

White Bellbird males in the 2019 field study used their louder song type when a female was on the display perch. The joke does not mean birds cannot vary their sound. Your device volume never changes; no natural sound pressure or decibel measurement is simulated.

WHY THIS BIRD MATTERS

Wildlife science has to get close enough to listen.

An impressive video can tell you a bird is loud. Calibrated field measurements can tell researchers much more about the sound and the context in which it is produced. Meet the researchers who documented White Bellbird courtship in the Brazilian Amazon.

This is a research and education link, not a species-specific rescue fund. The record claim belongs to the 2019 study; this page does not assert an unchecked present-day record.
